Turkey conducts major operations against illegal betting and insurance fraud

Turkish authorities have launched several large-scale law enforcement operations targeting illegal gambling and organized fraud. In a major crackdown on illegal betting, coordinated raids across multiple provinces, including Kütahya, Tekirdağ, and Istanbul, have targeted organized crime networks. One investigation in Kütahya involving five provinces identified two separate betting structures with a transaction volume of approximately 14.9 billion TL. Another operation centered in Tekirdağ resulted in 11 arrests following the seizure of assets linked to a 2.1 billion TL transaction volume.

In a separate investigation coordinated by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, police dismantled a scheme involving staged traffic accidents. Between 2022 and 2026, the network allegedly orchestrated 76 fake accidents to defraud 17 insurance companies of millions of liras. This operation, which spanned seven provinces, led to the arrest of 58 suspects.

Additionally, an investigation in Istanbul focused on the PAYMIX 5 case, targeting illegal betting activities. Authorities identified sophisticated methods used to track and incentivize players through VIP categories and custom bonus campaigns. The operation led to 18 detentions and the freezing of 467 bank and cryptocurrency accounts.
