Turkish authorities warn of flood and drowning risks in Tokat province and Tomarza district

The Tomarza District Governor’s Office issued a warning that uncontrolled water bodies such as streams, ponds and irrigation canals pose a drowning risk, especially in summer. Officials urged residents to avoid entering these areas, keep children supervised, heed warning signs, and call emergency services (112) immediately if an incident occurs.

In Tokat province, the provincial disaster and emergency coordination board extended evacuation measures in several neighborhoods and villages because of flood risk after recent heavy rains. Some areas saw the measures lifted as the risk decreased, while others—such as parts of Hacılar, Varvara, Hamam, Çevlikler and Borsa—remain under partial or full evacuation. School attendance for affected children was adjusted, with some classes moved to alternative schools and transport routes maintained. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and ask the public to follow official alerts.
