Turkish cardiologists warn of rising heart attack risk in young people during hot weather

Cardiology specialists in Turkey reported an increase in heart attack cases among young adults as summer temperatures climb. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akçay of Özel Sular Akademi Hospital said that dehydration, high‑temperature conditions and intense physical activity can trigger serious rhythm disturbances that lead to heart attacks, especially in individuals with undiscovered risk factors.

Dr. Ender Özal of Medical Park TEM Hospital added that heat‑induced fluid and electrolyte loss raises blood viscosity and cardiac workload, while sudden shifts to cooler or air‑conditioned environments can cause rapid vessel constriction, raising the risk of arrhythmia and infarction. Both doctors urged people to stay well‑hydrated, monitor blood pressure, undergo risk‑factor screening, and adjust exercise or medication regimens during the hot months.
