Mersin municipality cleans 27 km of storm‑water drains
The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality’s Water and Sewerage Administration (MESKİ) carried out planned maintenance and cleaning of rain‑water pipes, grates and manholes across four central districts. In the first half of 2026 the crews cleaned roughly 27,648 metres of drainage lines.
Work was performed at night to minimise traffic disruption, and the agency also responded quickly to citizen reports received through the Teksin Alo 185 call centre. MESKİ director Onur Salcan said, "Sahada aralıksız çalışarak kanalizasyon ve yağmursuyu hatlarını düzenli olarak temizliyor, altyapının kesintısız işlemesini sağlıyoruz," adding that the service would continue without interruption.
The initiative follows commitments by the Turkey Municipalities Union and Mayor Vahap Seçer to strengthen the city’s infrastructure and prevent water pooling during rainstorms.
