Turkey expands municipal infrastructure projects across several cities

Local authorities in Turkey have launched a series of infrastructure upgrades. In Mersin, the metropolitan municipality has intensified inspections of public‑transport vehicles, focusing on air‑conditioning performance, vehicle cleanliness, passenger limits and driver compliance, with penalties imposed for violations.

Mersin’s water and sewerage agency (MESKİ) received a joint site inspection by an international delegation from the European Union and the French Development Agency, reviewing the Mezitli drinking‑water project (165 km of pipelines and three storage tanks) and sewer works in Toroslar, Kazanlı and Homurlu (about 52 km of new lines).

Eskişehir’s metropolitan water and sewerage directorate completed new concrete sewer pipes on Candanel and Mehmet Akif Ersoy streets, improving wastewater conveyance and system durability.

In Manisa Province’s Akhisar district, a 32.25 million TL rain‑water drainage scheme is installing 2.6 km of pipelines and 180 rain‑water grates across three neighbourhoods to reduce flood damage.

Hatay’s municipalities are revitalising the Iskenderun coastline with landscaping and seasonal flower planting, adding lighting and green‑area maintenance to create a more aesthetic urban waterfront.

Defne district in Hatay is upgrading its drinking‑water network, constructing up to 200 km of new pipelines, new reservoirs and replacing old asbestos‑lined pipes, aiming to deliver safer, uninterrupted water supply to residents.
