Turkish Cities Expand Pest Control and Free Health Screenings
Manisa Metropolitan Municipality is conducting uninterrupted vector‑control operations throughout the province’s 17 districts as summer temperatures rise. Teams from the Veterinary Services Department deployed 25 vehicles and 35 staff in Akhisar alone, spraying parks, streets, wetlands and other breeding sites to curb flies, mosquitoes and other pests. Mayor Besim Dutlulu emphasized that the measures are essential for public‑health protection and will continue throughout the season.
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality organized a free health‑screening event in Erzin, where residents received blood‑sugar and blood‑pressure checks by dietitian experts. Participants were given advice on healthy eating, regular exercise and early detection of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. The initiative aims to raise community awareness and prevent chronic diseases, with Mayor Mehmet Öntürk thanking volunteers for their effort.
