Turkish cities launch major drinking‑water pipeline upgrades

The Malatya Metropolitan Municipality’s Water and Sewerage Directorate is completing a 41‑kilometre drinking‑water transmission line from the Sivas Sarıca Basin to the Kuluncak district. The project aims to provide continuous, high‑quality water to about 7,000 residents, features smart‑grid architecture and SCADA integration to minimise losses, and includes road repairs along the route. Local officials highlighted the long‑standing water shortage problem and the support of national leadership.

In Zeytinköy neighbourhood of Menteşe, Muğla Province, the municipal water directorate is relocating existing drinking‑water pipes from private land onto public roads and open spaces. The move is intended to speed up repairs, reduce leaks and pipe bursts caused by high pressure, and protect agricultural fields from damage. Residents and the neighbourhood muhtar praised the work for improving service reliability and safety.

Both projects are part of broader municipal efforts to modernise water infrastructure, improve service efficiency and reduce water loss across Turkish cities.
