Bornova Municipality Launches Summer Fire‑Prevention Clean‑up

The Bornova municipality in İzmir, Turkey, has begun a city‑wide clean‑up ahead of the summer heat. Teams are removing dry grass and plant material from neighborhoods, medians, sidewalks and vacant lots using a “misinalama” method to eliminate fire hazards and visual litter. Collected pruning waste, twigs and other vegetation are processed for recycling; the organic material is turned into compost and fertilizer for parks, gardens and agricultural areas.

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the measures aim to protect public safety while promoting a greener, more sustainable city. He stated, “We are maintaining every corner of our town, cleaning dry vegetation and collecting pruning waste to ensure environmental safety and reduce fire risk. The organic waste is returned to nature, supporting a cleaner, safer and greener Bornova.” The municipality plans to continue these preventive activities throughout the summer and urges residents to avoid leaving plant debris in public spaces.
