Turkish cities update public transport fares

Public transportation fares in several major Turkish cities have undergone updates due to rising fuel, operational, and personnel costs.

In Istanbul, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council implemented a 10 percent increase effective July 20, 2026. The electronic full ticket price rose from 42 TL to 46.20 TL. Student fares are set at 22.55 TL, while teacher fares are approximately 33.08 TL. On lines such as Metrobüs and Marmaray, costs vary based on distance traveled.

In Izmir, the ESHOT tariff was updated as of April 1, 2026, with the full fare set at 35 TL. The youth fare is 17.50 TL. Under the current Izmirim Kart system, transfers made within 90 minutes of the first boarding are free of charge.
