Sayıştay reports uncover public sector irregularities in Turkey

The Turkish Court of Accounts (Sayıştay) has released several audit reports uncovering various irregularities across public institutions.

In the privatization sector, the report found that 26 properties transferred to public institutions under the condition of being used for the public interest were instead sold, while four others were used for purposes other than those specified. Additionally, the report noted that privatization fund financial statements were not reported accurately and value determination results were not disclosed to the public.

Regarding the Ministry of Youth and Sports, auditors highlighted fire risks in student dormitories that were occupied before receiving occupancy permits. The report also noted that over 3,700 sports clubs failed to submit declarations on time, and administrative fines were largely not applied.

Furthermore, an audit of Şırnak University revealed irregularities in academic staff recruitment. The report documented the use of highly specific criteria in job postings designed to match the previous work of specific candidates, effectively preventing competition and bypassing legal standards.
