Turkish Court Postpones 57th Hearing in Aziz İhsan Aktaş Criminal Trial

The Istanbul 1st Heavy Penal Court held the 57th hearing in the Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization case, convening in the courtroom opposite the Marmara Closed Penitentiary.

The proceedings involve roughly 200 defendants, including seven who remain in custody and six former municipal mayors who have been suspended from office, among them Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat.

Defendants and their lawyers rejected accusations of forged signatures and alleged procedural irregularities, asserting that no public harm occurred and that the investigation was incomplete.

Court President Oğuzhan Gül announced that the defense of Rıza Akpolat and his lawyers had not yet been heard, and the court postponed the hearing to the following day.
