Turkish Cypriot Minister prioritizes search for 14 missing in Kyrenia ferry disaster
Faiz Sucuoğlu, the newly appointed Minister of Public Works and Transport for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, has stated that the primary objective of his administration is to locate 14 people missing following a ferry disaster off the coast of Kyrenia.
Sucuoğlu described the sinking as one of the greatest tragedies the region has experienced since 1974, noting its profound impact on society. He confirmed that authorities are in close contact with the families of the missing and are working intensively to provide updates.
To assist in the search, the deep-sea research and survey ship ‘Optimus Prime’ has arrived from Turkey. The vessel utilizes specialized drilling and breaking methods intended to reach the sunken vessel and the missing individuals quickly.
