Turkish police conduct nationwide raids, arrest 20 in betting bust and seize thousands of drug items
Police operations across Turkey in late July targeted a range of illegal activities. In a coordinated four‑province raid organized by the İzmir Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı, authorities uncovered student‑house fronts used for unlawful betting; 34 suspects were detained and 20, including the alleged network leader H. Separate drug‑related actions were carried out in several cities. In Avcılar (Istanbul) two men stealing garden railing were apprehended with synthetic cannabinoid “peçete” and related chemicals. In the Turkish‑controlled north Cyprus, three separate operations led to three arrests and the seizure of hint‑cannabis plants, synthetic‑cannabinoid‑filled papers and a mixed‑tobacco joint‑rolled cigarette. In Samsun’s Bafra district, officers seized 782 cannabis plants, 8 kg of hashish‑type cannabis, firearms and ammunition, and detained three suspects, one of whom was jailed. Malatya police confiscated 14,446 synthetic ecstasy pills, 181 g of synthetic cannabinoid, 78 g of raw cannabinoid, 173 g of cannabis and 23 cannabis plants, resulting in seven arrests and detentions. Ankara units reported 122 kg of raw drug material, 122 500 drug pills, two pistols and cash seized, with three suspects taken into custody.
