Turkish fishing vessel Duru 67 attacked in Black Sea, killing one and injuring four
On 5 June 2026 a Turkish‑flagged fishing boat, Duru 67, was struck by an unknown attack in the Sivastopol area off the western coast of Crimea. The vessel sustained severe damage and sank. The nearby Turkish boat Burak Kaya rescued the five crew members, but one fisherman, 47‑year‑old Cüneyt Varlık from Trabzon, died during the transfer to shore while the other four were injured.
The Turkish Coast Guard dispatched the patrol ship TCSG‑96 with a medical team of four doctors, fifteen UMKE personnel and additional nurses. Initial first‑aid treatment was provided on board, after which the casualties were taken to İnebolu port and then transferred to Kastamonu Education and Research Hospital. Varlık’s body was returned to his hometown for burial, while the injured crew continued to receive medical care.
