Turkey's FM Hakan Fidan slams Netanyahu, flags S‑400 sale talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies are a burden for Israel, the region and international security. He warned there is no reason for an open conflict between Ankara and Tel Aviv and urged greater international pressure on Israel to increase humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

Fidan emphasized Turkey’s unique role as a regional mediator and highlighted recent phone talks with Iran’s ambassador Abbas Arakchi, stating that reducing tensions is essential for a solution. He also spoke about ongoing negotiations over the S‑400 air‑defence system, noting that Russia should be involved in discussions because Turkey purchased the missiles and that a possible re‑export to the United Arab Emirates is being considered.

The minister referenced a new security framework involving Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and reiterated Turkey’s intention to resolve outstanding issues with the U.S. over its F‑35 fighter programme, noting the aircraft are paid for and awaiting delivery.
