Turkey Football Federation adopts chip‑enabled ball technology for Süper Lig

The Turkey Football Federation (TFF) has approved the introduction of a chip‑embedded football and an expanded camera system for the Süper Lig. Each match ball will contain a motion sensor that records the moment of contact up to 500 times per second and transmits the data to the VAR platform, allowing millimetric off‑side detection and clearer identification of ball‑player contact. To support the new ball, four additional high‑definition cameras will be installed in every stadium, boosting VAR precision and speeding up review processes.

The TFF plans to roll out the system in the second half of the 2026‑2027 season, targeting January‑February for full implementation. The estimated cost for the sensor‑equipped balls is about 7 million TL, with further expenses for camera hardware and software integration. The federation will seek financial assistance from FIFA and the broadcasting sector, but officials have stated that the project will proceed even without external funding. Deputy Chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz emphasized that the move mirrors innovations introduced at the FIFA World Cup and aims to set a regional example.
