Turkish Football Federation technology rollout

In early July 2026 the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that the Süper Lig would adopt the rule set planned for the 2026 World Cup, aligning the domestic competition with upcoming international standards. A few weeks later the federation detailed a concrete step in that modernization: the introduction of chip‑embedded match balls that transmit contact data to VAR systems, improving off‑side and hand‑ball decisions. To support the technology, four extra high‑definition cameras per stadium will be added, VAR infrastructure will be upgraded, and the project is budgeted at roughly 7 million Turkish lira.

On 1 August 2026 the TFF approved the rollout, specifying that each ball will contain a motion sensor capable of recording up to 500 contacts per second and sending the data to VAR for millimetric off‑side detection and clearer ball‑player contact identification. The system is slated for deployment in the second half of the 2026‑2027 season, with full implementation targeted for January‑February 2027. The estimated cost remains about 7 million TL; the federation will seek financial assistance from FIFA and broadcasters but has affirmed the project will proceed even without external funding. Deputy Chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz highlighted the move as a regional example of World Cup‑level innovation.
