Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Visit Canada for Nuclear and Trade Talks

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Canada on June 25‑26 for a two‑day official visit. On the first day he will tour the Darlington Nuclear Power Plant near Toronto and attend a meeting with Canadian business leaders, civil‑society representatives and academics.

The next day he is scheduled to meet Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa. The talks will focus on deepening Turkey‑Canada relations to a strategic partnership, accelerating the pending free‑trade agreement, expanding bilateral trade – which stood at about $2.7 billion in 2025 – and enhancing cooperation in energy, including nuclear projects, as well as defence collaboration. The agenda also includes discussion of broader geopolitical issues such as the US‑Iran situation, the Strait of Hormuz, the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, and Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank. The visit notes the recent increase in Turkish Air Lines flights to Canada and the presence of roughly 130,000 Turkish citizens residing in Canada.
