Turkish garment firms expand production into Syria

Turkish garment and textile companies are increasingly expanding production into Syria, driven by lower labor costs and the country’s industrial recovery efforts. In the first half of 2026, approximately 247 investment applications were submitted for the textile and ready-to-wear sectors in Syria.

Leading retailer LC Waikiki has commenced production at a new factory in Al-Rai Industrial City near Aleppo. The facility currently employs 150 workers, with a target to reach 1,000 employees within three years. Beyond serving the local market, the plant has begun exporting products to the United Arab Emirates and European Union countries.

Industry analysts note that the shift is motivated by significant cost advantages; for instance, the minimum wage in Syria is reported to be approximately $115, compared to roughly $585 in Turkey. Other Turkish firms, including Isparko, Mikrotx, Mersan, and Tumkalıp, are reportedly evaluating or planning similar investments in the region.
