TMO begins 2026 hazelnut procurement in Ordu and Giresun
The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has officially commenced the 2026 hazelnut procurement season in Ordu, Giresun, and Düzce. The initiative aims to stabilize the market, support producer marketing, and address storage and financing needs. In Ordu, procurement has begun at six locations, including Altınordu, Fatsa, and Ünye, with the potential to expand to 61 points. In Giresun, operations are active across four centers and seven points, with more locations scheduled to open in early September.
TMO has established specific pricing and quality criteria. For shelled hazelnuts, prices are set at 255 TL/kg for Giresun quality, 250 TL/kg for Levant quality, and 245 TL/kg for Sivri quality, based on a 50% sound kernel standard. Additional payments are offered for higher yields. To qualify, products must meet strict standards regarding moisture (max 6.5%), foreign matter (max 0.5%), and kernel integrity.
Market observations indicate a discrepancy between TMO prices and the free market. In Giresun and Ordu, free market prices have been reported below TMO levels, with gaps ranging from 30 to 70 TL per kilogram depending on the quality. Meanwhile, in Samsun, local market rates for various hazelnut types have been updated for the new season. In Ordu, municipal efforts through ORTAR A.Ş. are also focusing on increasing hazelnut economic value through scientific and technical agricultural practices.
