Turkish hazelnut producers face rising costs and falling income

Hazelnut producers in Turkey are facing severe economic distress due to rising production and labor costs, which are outpacing the market price of the crop. During field visits in Sinop and Giresun by YENİ Parti representatives, farmers reported that their monthly earnings often fall below the minimum wage, making it difficult to cover basic living expenses and agricultural inputs.

In Giresun, some producers are increasingly turning to the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) for support. Local merchants and market owners also reported a significant economic slowdown, noting that high costs and reduced purchasing power have left both buyers and sellers struggling. Some residents expressed concerns over rural depopulation, stating that younger generations are leaving the region due to the lack of economic opportunity.
