Turkish investors' assets approach 50 trillion lira, Istanbul tops regional portfolios

Data from the Turkish Capital Markets Association (TSPB) show that domestic investors' total financial assets reached roughly 49.7 trillion lira in the first half of 2026, a 12.4 % increase year‑on‑year. Equity holdings rose 32.2 % to 6.295 trillion lira, with corporate investors posting a 60.4 % gain while individual investors grew 25.6 %. The rise occurred despite heightened geopolitical tension between the United States‑Israel and Iran, and equity returns outpaced inflation, which ran at 17.76 % in the six‑month period and 32.11 % annually.

According to the Central Securities Depository (MKK), Istanbul leads Turkish cities in investor numbers (1.626 million) and portfolio size (4.711 trillion lira), followed by Ankara and İzmir. Bursa ranks fourth with a portfolio of 116 billion lira. Among foreign investors, the United States holds the largest portfolio at 767 billion lira, with Qatar and the United Kingdom trailing. Germany hosts the highest count of foreign investors.

These figures highlight the continued expansion of Turkey’s capital markets and the dominance of Istanbul as the primary hub for both domestic and overseas investment.
