Turkish leaders mark Turkish Language Day with calls for preservation
Turkish political and cultural leaders have issued various messages to commemorate Turkish Language Day (September 26). President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized that the Turkish language is a carrier of the nation's history, culture, and collective memory. He noted that protecting and enriching the language is a vital responsibility, especially as the country works toward the 'Century of Türkiye' goals.
MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli described the language as a bridge between the past and the future, warning that the weakening of the language could impact national identity and cultural belonging. Similarly, BBP Leader Mustafa Destici highlighted the importance of maintaining Turkish integrity in the face of foreign influences and digital language shifts.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also addressed the importance of the language, noting its increasing global visibility and the significance of the consensus on a common Turkic alphabet. Other regional and political figures, including MHP Konya Provincial Chairman Sedat Göncü, echoed these sentiments, stressing that language preservation is a national duty essential for social unity and the preservation of historical heritage.
