Yeni Parti Gains Wave of CHP Defections Across Turkey

A series of resignations from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has bolstered the newly formed Yeni Parti. In Ardahan, roughly 90 % of local CHP organisations – including district officials in Çıldır, Göle, Hanak, Damal and Posof – quit the party and joined Yeni Parti. In Yalova, six mayors (Mehmet Gürel, Adil Yele, Avni Kurt, Kamil Yaman, Turan Canbay and Yılmaz Tavşan) left CHP for the new party. Samsun’s Atakum mayor Serhat Türkel and about 39 municipal councilors also resigned from CHP and entered Yeni Parti. In İzmir, all 30 district heads transferred their allegiance to Yeni Parti, citing dissatisfaction with CHP leadership. In Akçaabat, a former CHP district chief publicly removed letters from the party’s sign before joining Yeni Parti. Party founder Yücel Balkanlı announced a goal of winning three parliamentary seats, while the party plans its first congress in October 2026 and aims to complete organisational structures in all 81 provinces by August 2026.
