Turkish mayors and council members resign from CHP
A wave of resignations from the Republican People's Party (CHP) is reshaping local political structures in several Turkish municipalities.
In Alanya, 22 municipal council members resigned from the CHP to join the Yeni Parti. This mass departure follows the resignation of Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik, who had been referred to the party's high disciplinary board.
In Konyaaltı, Mayor Cem Kotan resigned from the CHP after being referred to disciplinary proceedings. His resignation was reportedly linked to his interactions with the Yeni Parti.
In Çiftlik, Mayor Arif Çakıl announced his resignation from the CHP, stating that he and his council members would continue their service as independents due to what he described as a ‘nullity management understanding’ within the party.
