Turkish medical teams perform successful life-saving infant surgeries

Medical teams in Turkey have successfully treated two infants suffering from life-threatening conditions.

In Kütahya, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Uygun and his surgical team at Kütahya City Hospital successfully operated on a baby born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. This rare condition, where abdominal organs displace into the chest cavity due to a tear in the diaphragm, carries a high risk of mortality. Following the surgery and the application of nitric oxide treatment, the infant was discharged in stable condition.

In İzmir, Associate Professor Dr. Kaan Yıldız performed a successful 3D radiofrequency ablation on a 15-month-old infant suffering from severe cardiac arrhythmia. The infant's heart rate exceeded 200 beats per minute, posing a significant risk of heart failure. The procedure involved accessing the heart through the groin to eliminate the electrical short circuit causing the rapid heart rate. Despite the patient weighing less than 10 kilograms, the procedure was completed safely, and the infant is recovering well.
