Pediatric surgical successes for rare infant conditions
Overview
Medical teams in the Czech Republic and Turkey have reported successful surgical interventions for infants with life-threatening conditions.
In Prague, specialists at the Institute for Mother and Child treated twin boys born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The condition, which involves abdominal organs moving into the chest cavity, required mechanical ventilation and specialized surgical repairs, including the use of a Gore-Tex patch for one infant. Both twins and their mother were subsequently discharged.
In Turkey, surgeons in Kütahya successfully operated on an infant with congenital diaphragmatic hernia using nitric oxide treatment. Additionally, in İzmir, medical teams performed a 3D radiofrequency ablation on a 15-month-old infant to treat severe cardiac arrhythmia.
