Erdogan and Zelenskyy meet in Istanbul to discuss Ukraine peace and Black Sea security
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held bilateral talks in Istanbul at the Dolmabahce Palace. The leaders focused on regional security, specifically the situation in the Black Sea, and diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelenskyy announced that Turkey and Ukraine have reached an agreement to work together on reviving and ensuring the effective operation of the Black Sea grain corridor to bolster food security. The leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation, including new joint industrial and economic projects, following the entry into force of a Free Trade Agreement between the two nations.
Erdogan expressed Turkey's readiness to facilitate peace processes through communication with Russia and reaffirmed commitment to Ukraine's territorial integrity. He condemned attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea, stating such actions benefit no party. Zelenskyy noted the potential for a trilateral negotiation format involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which is expected to take place in November.
