Turkish Minister Göktaş Condemns Discriminatory Remarks About Women

Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş publicly denounced statements that belittle women based on identity, ethnicity or gender, saying they cannot be justified under any circumstance. She emphasized that humor does not excuse such language and that humiliating or targeting remarks are a form of violence against women.

The comments in question were alleged to have been made by businessman R. K., who reportedly targeted women and citizens of certain ethnic backgrounds. Göktaş reiterated the ministry’s duty to protect every woman’s dignity, safety and freedom from discrimination, regardless of religion, language, ethnicity, lifestyle or worldview.
