Turkish Ministry of Trade audits hazelnut markets in Ordu and Giresun
The Turkish Ministry of Trade has launched a comprehensive inspection process in the hazelnut market to monitor pricing, commercial practices, and competition conditions. Ministry inspectors have been deployed to the Ordu, Giresun, Ünye, and Fatsa Commodity Exchanges to examine transaction records, registration processes, and price formation mechanisms.
The audit aims to protect the rights of producers, ensure production costs are covered, and support the sustainability of hazelnut production, a strategic agricultural export for Turkey. Additionally, the ministry seeks to ensure consumers can access the product at fair prices by preventing activities that create artificial shortages or disrupt free market competition.
Authorities stated that if any activities are found to be creating market scarcity, hindering free competition, or obstructing consumer access, administrative sanctions will be applied in accordance with relevant legislation.
