Turkish MP Ali Mahir Başarır publicly assaults CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu

Ali Mahir Başarır, a Member of Parliament for Mersin and former CHP group deputy chairman, was expelled from the Republican People’s Party (CHP). After his expulsion, he appeared on a YouTube programme where he launched severe verbal attacks against party chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

Başarır described Kılıçdaroğlu as a “project” and claimed the leader intends to turn the CHP into a “satellite of the palace”. He asserted that Kılıçdaroğlu’s “task” is not finished and accused him of lying and denying facts. The statements reflect deep intra‑party tensions within the Turkish opposition.
