Turkish MP Nimet Özdemir Rejoins AKP, Criticizes CHP in Parliament

Nimet Özdemir, who was elected to Turkey's 28th parliamentary term as an IYI Party candidate from Istanbul’s 1st district, left IYI for the CHP in October 2024 and later resigned from the CHP in June 2026. After a brief silence, she returned to the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and rejoined its parliamentary group. In a session of the AKP group, Özdemir asserted that she will continue to work for the welfare of stray animals and said, “There is no change; the same generosity remains.” She criticized the opposition, describing the CHP and other parties as fostering “chaos and disorder” and accusing them of “blocking parliamentary work.” Earlier, she had displayed a “Free İmamoğlu” banner on the Bosphorus Bridge, calling for the mayor’s freedom.
