Turkish MP Vedat Bilgin Urges Prosecutors in Doruk Mining Labor Dispute

MP Vedat Bilgin, chair of the Turkish Parliament’s Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Commission, met with Doruk Madencilik workers and the Turkish Mine Workers’ Union leader Nurettin Akçul inside the Grand National Assembly. The workers said they have not received salaries for six months and cannot obtain severance after 17 years of service. The union claimed the company failed to meet its financial obligations, that wage garnishments were not passed on to creditors, and that many employees have been forced to seek work in other sectors.

Bilgin condemned the employer’s actions as contrary to the Turkish Constitution, the Collective Bargaining Law and the Labor Law, describing them as an attack on the state and on workers’ rights. He announced that he will file a criminal complaint and called on prosecutors to open an investigation into the company’s alleged illegal conduct.
