Turkish MPs Şadan Şimşek and Melih Meriç quit CHP, join Yeni Party

Edirne deputy Şadan Şimşek announced his resignation from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) after a court‑issued "butlan" decision, stating that remaining in the party would contradict his democratic principles and commitment to the Republic. In a written statement he affirmed his continued support for Atatürk’s ideals and pledged to stay active in politics outside the party framework.

Gaziantep MP Melih Meriç also declared his departure from CHP, describing the move as the most difficult yet meaningful decision of his career. He joined the newly formed Yeni Party, emphasizing the need for fresh political ideas in Turkey and reaffirming his dedication to the Republic’s core values, democratic rights and social justice.

Both politicians framed their exits as acts of conscience and expressed intent to continue serving their constituents under their new political affiliations.
