Turkish municipalities advance urban renewal projects in İzmir and Erzurum

İzmir’s Bornova district mayor Ömer Eşki inspected the Doğanlar neighbourhood, noting rapid population growth from a recent urban‑conversion programme. He ordered immediate work on several infrastructure items, including a renovation of Uzun Alioğlu Park, road repairs and a drainage project coordinated with the city water utility (İZSU). The mayor pledged additional facilities such as a new health centre, sports field and community garden to improve livability.

In eastern Turkey, Erzurum’s Büyükşehir Belediye led the Habipbaba urban‑transformation project. Mayor Mehmet Sekmen handed over keys for the Alipaşa housing complex, comprising 70 residential units, 41 commercial premises and 10 offices, to owners. A foundation‑laying ceremony marked the start of the second phase, which will add roughly 8,000 m² of construction, new shops, underground parking and administrative spaces. Officials emphasised that the redevelopment preserves historic structures while providing modern, earthquake‑resistant housing and boosting local tourism and commerce.
