Turkish municipalities boost coastal and urban environmental initiatives
The Kemer municipality in Antalya, operating under the Antalya Governor’s “Blue Mediterranean Initiative”, installed informational signs along the coastline to raise awareness about marine protection and waste reduction. Mayor Necati Topaloğlu said, “We aim to raise awareness so citizens and visitors keep our seas clean and reduce waste at its source.”
In Denizli, the Metropolitan Municipality held a three‑day environmental week (June 10‑12) organized by its Climate Change and Zero Waste Department. Activities included tree planting, a recycling‑art exhibition, a cleanup of the Baraj River, distribution of 7,000 basil plants, and a technical field trip for students to a solid‑waste facility, all intended to foster sustainable habits across generations.
