Gemlik irrigation facility reaches 80% completion

The Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, through its water and sewerage administration BUSKİ, is nearing completion of an irrigation facility in the Şükriye neighborhood of Gemlik. The project has reached an 80 percent physical completion rate since construction began in June 2024.

The facility is integrated with the Gemlik Şükriye Irrigation Pond, which features a membrane-type structure and a gross storage capacity of 82,631.17 cubic meters. To distribute the stored water to local agricultural lands, crews are installing approximately 6,300 meters of a closed-system pipeline of varying diameters.

Upon completion, which is planned for August, the project aims to provide irrigation infrastructure to approximately 800 decares of agricultural land. The initiative is designed to promote more efficient and controlled use of water resources while supporting sustainable agricultural production in the region.
