Turkish municipalities intensify mosquito control efforts

Edirne Municipality’s Veterinary Services Department continues year‑round vector control, targeting mosquito larvae and adults across roughly 5,000 hectares. The program employs 15 certified staff and four spray vehicles, applying larvicides in animal barns, abandoned structures, sewers and wetlands, and conducting adult‑mosquito fogging at dusk. Data from dry‑ice traps guide targeted applications, and the municipality coordinates with the provincial governor and health authorities.

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality maintains continuous vector‑control operations in 19 districts with a workforce of about 1,700 personnel. The city focuses on the invasive Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), providing field training on the species’ biology and breeding sites. Regular larval treatments are carried out in septic tanks, canals and other water‑holding containers, while night‑time adult spraying is conducted throughout the year. The effort is overseen by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çetin and is coordinated with the provincial health directorate and other local agencies.
