Turkish municipalities launch historical site restoration projects

Municipalities in Trabzon and Şanlıurfa are undertaking significant projects to preserve and enhance their historical urban landscapes.

In Trabzon, the Metropolitan Municipality has signed a contract worth 124.36 million TL for the restoration, landscaping, and lighting of the Pazarkapı Neighborhood Castle Walls. The project includes structural repairs to damaged sections of the walls and bastions using traditional masonry techniques, the creation of observation terraces, walking paths, and improved lighting to make the site more functional for visitors.

In Şanlıurfa, the Metropolitan Municipality, in collaboration with the Şanlıurfa Governor's Office, Eyyübiye Municipality, and Dicle Elektrik A.Ş., has completed a comprehensive lighting and renovation project in the Old Urfa district. The initiative illuminated 275 streets across historical neighborhoods, including Bıçakçı, Yusufpaşa, and Camikebir. Beyond lighting, the project involved repainting historic walls and replacing street pavements with interlocking stones that match the city's ancient architectural character to boost tourism potential.
