Turkish Municipalities Launch Mobile and Open‑Air Libraries for Children

Manavgat Municipality and the Manavgat District Library Directorate have begun a mobile library service that transports books to the district’s mountain villages. The program, overseen by deputy mayor Mehmet Çiçek, aims to give children in remote areas regular access to reading material, promote literacy during the summer months and reduce educational inequality.

In Istanbul’s Bağcılar district, the municipality opened an open‑air library in the garden of its main service building in Güneşli Mahallesi. Mayor Yasin Yıldız said the initiative targets preschoolers and first‑grade students, offering books, reading sessions, and creative workshops such as painting and craft activities. Both projects seek to foster a habit of reading and provide cultural opportunities for young residents.
