Turkish municipalities launch new natural life areas for street animals

Municipalities in Turkey are expanding infrastructure to support street animals through new natural life areas and shelters.

In Diyarbakır, the Metropolitan Municipality is constructing a massive 195-acre natural life area in the Yaytaş neighborhood of the Yenişehir district. Once completed, the facility is expected to house approximately 15,000 animals. The project includes 24/7 veterinary services, regular vaccination protocols for rabies and parasites, and sterilization programs. For serious medical or orthopedic issues, the facility coordinates with Dicle University for specialized treatment.

In Ordu, a new 2-acre street animal natural life area has been opened in the Hürriyet neighborhood of the Gölköy district. This facility is designed to provide shelter and rehabilitation for approximately 200 stray animals. The opening ceremony was attended by local officials, including Governor Muammer Erol and Ordu Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, who noted the importance of the project in managing stray populations while ensuring animal welfare.
