Turkish municipalities roll out summer sports schools for children
Municipalities across Turkey are launching summer sports schools aimed at keeping children active during the holidays. In Manisa's Şehzadeler district, the council will run football courses from June 29 to September 4, providing transport, equipment and daily coaching sessions. Trabzon's Ortahisar district opened registrations for a multi‑sport program that includes football, taekwondo, karate, muay thai, handball, boxing, kickboxing, gymnastics, tennis and swimming, with free classes for most disciplines.
In İzmir's Karşıyaka district, eight facilities will host eleven sports, adding child‑focused yoga sessions to the curriculum. Meanwhile, Kayseri's ERVA (Erdemlerimizle Varız) initiative, now operating 70 centers with more than 17,000 participants, distributed sports equipment to students and highlighted its model status nationwide. The program, supported by local officials, aims to foster healthy habits and counteract addictions, with partnerships such as the one between Şehzadeler Municipality and the anti‑addiction organization Yeşilay emphasizing sport as a preventive tool.
