Turkish municipalities Muğla and Antalya earn European sustainability recognition

The Muğla Metropolitan Municipality’s “Muğla Circular Construction and Demolition Waste Management and Recovery Model” was selected as a finalist in the 2026 Local Sustainability Award, joining Europe’s most successful sustainability projects. The award ceremony is scheduled for 13 October 2026 in Brussels, where Muğla’s circular‑economy approach will be presented to an international audience. Mayor Ahmet Aras highlighted the project as a showcase of Muğla’s climate‑friendly, innovative governance.

In Antalya, the metropolitan municipality organized a “Joint Brainstorming Workshop for Green Transition” under the EU‑funded InterregNEXT MED Gov4GreenMed programme. The workshop brought together public agencies, academia, NGOs and local stakeholders to discuss converting organic waste into soil improvers and to promote participatory governance. A pilot led by Antalya’s municipality and Finike district will test the use of certified organic soil amendments with farmers, schools and cooperatives, aiming to improve soil health and reduce waste.
