Turkish municipalities upgrade firefighting infrastructure and fleets

Municipalities in Turkey are enhancing emergency response capabilities through new infrastructure and fleet upgrades. In İzmir, the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Tire Organized Industrial Zone (TOSBİ) have opened a new firefighting service building. The 804-square-meter facility is designed to provide faster intervention for emergencies within the industrial zone.

During the opening ceremony, İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay highlighted the increasing risks posed by the climate crisis, noting that extreme heat and drought heighten fire hazards for both forests and industrial production centers.

In Bursa, the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department has modernized its fleet to improve response times across its 10,866-square-kilometer service area. The upgrade includes the addition of Mercedes-Benz Atego fire vehicles, selected for their maneuverability in narrow streets and heavy traffic. Additionally, the department has completed the purchase of a Volvo Trucks FL model equipped with an Allison transmission to strengthen search and rescue operations. To support these new assets, personnel are undergoing technical training focused on precision control and advanced driving techniques.
