Turkish murder suspect arrested at Rome's Ciampino Airport

A 30-year-old Turkish man, wanted internationally for murder, was arrested by Italian police upon his arrival at Rome's Ciampino Airport. The individual was traveling on a low-cost flight from East Midlands Airport in England.

The arrest was triggered by an Interpol Red Notice issued in late 2022. Following the alert from the Service for International Police Cooperation, officers boarded the aircraft before passengers disembarked to identify and detain the suspect.

The man was convicted in Turkey for a 2020 homicide that occurred during a violent dispute in the Diyarbakir province. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and has approximately six years remaining on his sentence. He has been transferred to the Regina Coeli prison in Rome to await extradition proceedings.
