Turkish officials are advancing the 'Terror-free Turkey' initiative, a core component of the 'Turkey Century' vision aimed at eliminating terrorism from the country and the surrounding region. Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stated that the PKK is beginning a process to dissolve its elements and surrender its weapons.

In discussions with Iraqi Representative Assembly Speaker Heybet Halbusi, Kurtulmuş highlighted the positive momentum in Turkey-Iraq relations, noting that 27 agreements were signed in 2024. He announced that preparations will begin next month for Iraqi armed militia groups to transfer their weapons to the Iraqi central government. The two nations also discussed the strategic importance of the Development Road Project and agreed to establish inter-country committees to coordinate bilateral issues.

In regional visits to Şırnak and Hakkari, AK Party official Mustafa Demir and Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş emphasized that the end of terrorism is essential for economic investment, social stability, and prosperity. Göktaş noted that the initiative is vital for creating a secure future for youth, women, and families in border provinces.
