Turkish Parliament passes Framework Law with significant majority

The Turkish Grand National Assembly has passed a Framework Law with a significant majority, receiving 468 votes in favor, 88 against, and 6 abstentions. The law is set to be implemented following a National Security Council meeting and its publication in the Official Gazette.

DEM Party MP Vezir Parlak described the passing of the law as a potential precursor to the construction of a democratic society, noting that it could serve as a step toward resolving the Kurdish issue. Parlak emphasized the historical struggle for democratic politics and expressed hope that the law would prevent the recurrence of past suffering.

However, legal debates persist regarding the scope of the law. Questions remain as to whether the legislation covers high-profile figures such as Selahattin Demirtaş or individuals associated with Kandil. There is ongoing uncertainty regarding the legal status of certain individuals and whether the new framework will allow for the release or political participation of specific figures through a newly established Council led by the Vice President.
