Turkish Parliament submits list to lift immunity of 12 MPs

The Turkish Grand National Assembly has forwarded a list of twelve parliamentarians to the Constitutional and Justice Committee for consideration of lifting their parliamentary immunity. The legislators named include eleven members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) – Ali Mahir Başarır (Mersin), Mustafa Sezgin Tanrıkulu (Diyarbakır), Namık Tan (Istanbul), Mahmut Tanal (Şanlıurfa), Selma Aliye Kavaf (Manisa), Harun Özgür Yıldızlı (Kocaeli), Tahsin Ocaklı (Rize), Hasan Öztürkmen (Gaziantep) – and one independent MP, Selim Temurci (Istanbul). Additionally, Lütfü Türkkan of the İYİ Party (Kocaeli) is on the list. Mahmut Tanal appears in two separate files, prompting particular scrutiny. The proposals have been sent to a mixed committee, which will review them before the full parliament votes on whether to remove the immunities.
