Turkish police conduct massive crime and traffic checks in Acıgöl, Niğde
In Acıgöl, police and gendarmerie carried out a month‑long safety operation from 15 May to 15 June 2026, querying 36,152 individuals and 9,168 vehicles. The checks led to the arrest of 65 wanted persons, intervention in 91 incidents and assistance at six injury‑involving traffic accidents. Traffic enforcement resulted in penalties for 122 vehicles, removal of 40 vehicles from service and temporary confiscation of 11 drivers' licences.
In Niğde, authorities reported a week‑long crackdown (8‑14 June) that involved 297 suspects, five of whom were detained. Drug raids seized 615 g of cannabis, 103 g of synthetic narcotics, plus other substances, while contraband seizures included more than 10 000 filled capsules, 700 cigarette packs, 20 L of ethanol and two items classified as historical objects. Three foreign migrants were handed over to a return centre. Traffic inspections covered 32,294 drivers; 1,425 received penalties and 152 vehicles plus 33 motorcycles were barred from the roads. Overall, 51 wanted individuals were apprehended.
