Turkish police dismantle fraud network across 27 provinces
Turkish cybercrime units, coordinated by the Fatsa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, have dismantled a large-scale fraud network operating across 27 provinces. The operation followed a four-month technical surveillance period targeting suspects who used internet sites and social media to deceive citizens.
Investigators identified three primary fraudulent methods: impersonating notary officials to solicit “secure deposit payments” from vehicle sellers, posting fake advertisements for toy model cars on social media, and promising bank promotion payments to salary customers. Financial analysis revealed extremely high transaction volumes in the suspects' accounts over the previous nine months.
During simultaneous raids, 52 suspects were detained. Authorities seized various digital materials and an unlicensed handgun. In one instance, police recovered a mobile phone that a suspect attempted to throw out of a window to evade detection. Of the 49 suspects referred to judicial authorities, 19 were arrested on charges of qualified fraud, while five were placed under judicial control.
